This gallery – formerly the catalogue room of the Old Municipal Library – is dominated by the towering personalities of Vernet and Greuze. Nine paintings by Greuze illustrate the importance of "moralising" genre scenes, and themes of childhood and children's education as major preoccupations of their day. Landscape painting during the Englightenment period is represented with works by Wolff, Hubert Robert and Joseph Vernet. Aved's masterpiece, the Portrait of Madame Crozat is an early example of these changing attitudes.
