This collection of pictures comprises mostly Italian works donated by François-Xavier Fabre, in 1825, illustrating the European-wide fashion for Neoclassical landscape painting. Artists from the northern schools include Hackert and Voogd, while France is represented by Gauffier, Boguet and Michallon. Oil sketches executed out of doors were worked up into "finished" landscapes later, in the artists' studios.
